SUMMARY:NY250: Commemorating Local History Through Historic Markers
DESCRIPTION:\n\nJoin the New York State Library as we continue our 250th 
 webinar series! This presentation focuses on historical marker programs 
 offered by the William G. Pomeroy Foundation. These marker grant programs 
 highlight subjects spanning everything from food history to folklore and 
 are open to 501(c)(3) organizations\, nonprofit academic institutions and 
 local\, state and federal government entities. Libraries are natural 
 partners in this work — learn about the various programs\, the 
 application process\, and engagement strategies. How could your library 
 help uplift community stories through a historic marker? \n\nPresenters: 
 Anastasia Sopchak and Elizabeth Barbour \n\n\n\nAnastasia Sopchak is a 
 Research Historian and Engagement Associate and leads the Pomeroy Education 
 Program for the William G. Pomeroy Foundation. Prior to joining the 
 Foundation\, she got her MILS at Syracuse University\, and she has worked 
 in Special Collections\, Archives\, and Technical Services. She is 
 passionate about historic preservation\, local history\, and especially 
 libraries and all the work they do to enrich their communities! 
 \n\n\n\nElizabeth Barbour is a Library Media Specialist with the 
 Caldonia-Mumford School District. She and her students applied to the 
 Pomeroy Foundation for a historic marker grant to commemorate Sara J. 
 McBride\, which was recently approved. She will be guiding the students as 
 they embark on this project-based learning initiative\n\nThis public 
 program is offered by the New York State Library and made possible by 
 federal Library Service and Technology Act funds from the Institute of 
 Museum and Library Services\, which enable the New York State Library to 
 champion lifelong learning.
